Slate

Slate is a metamorphic rock that is dense, fine-grained, and foliated. This simply means that slate is one of the smoothest and layered stones. Slate is made from clay, shale, or volcanic ash that has undergone low-grade metamorphism. It is formed when shale sediment is subjected to prolonged pressure under the earth’s crust, turning it into rock. Slate isn’t known for particularly high abrasion or scratch resistance, yet it continues to be used for flooring and countertop installations.
